Dancing in Buenos AiresOn December 30, 2004, a major fire in the Republica Cromanon rock nightclub in Buenos Aires resulted in 200 dead and several hundred more injured. As a result, all nightspots were ordered closed for at least 15 days pending inspections by the city. This has affected virtually all Milongas in the central part of Buenos Aires, and visitors and residents alike don't know where to go dancing each night (some Milongas on the outskirts of town are open). A network of field reports (using the Tango-L list) and word of mouth is what people are going by. In order to consolidate this information, I have created a page that will be updated daily as long as this situation is in effect (probably through most of January and possibly beyond). It can be accessed at: www.BuenosAiresMilongas.comNew! See photos and a description of the Buenos Aires Tango Protesta (dancing on the streets when the police closed down a Milonga)
